What is this site? Who is this guy? Why am I reading this? How did I get here?
All great questions! This site, LifeCarawayd, is a blog by me, Todd. I’m a mid-30s guy who, for years, has wanted more in life than waking up, going to an office, working 8+ hrs, going home, eating dinner, going to bed, just to wake up the next morning to rinse and repeat.
You’ve probably heard this time and time again. It was very true for me and I had been feeling this way for years. While I had a great boss, great coworkers, and a great staff, the job was lacking. I did it well, but it wasn’t for me. I had lived in the same area for 10 years, but never felt like I was in the right place. What am I looking for? Where is the right place for me? I’m still seeking an answer to those questions.
Early August 2016, I turned in my resignation. I wrapped up work in late September, packed my car, and headed to the Greater DC area to live with my brother and nephew. I’ve now been in the DC area for a week and finally starting an online business! While I was able to save a good chunk of money so I am able to strike out on my own, it’s not an endless pot of money. I’m starting an e-commerce business and will be doing some other online work (affiliate marketing, SEO writing/consulting, etc). Currently, I’m in the research phase of the business, so not a lot of details to share just yet, but will do so soon.
In addition to getting the business started, I’m focusing on my well-being. My well-being has always taken the backseat. I know what I need to do to be healthy, but was slacking and letting the pounds add up. A friend recently put it to me this way: “The brief moments of pleasure you get from eating shit really isn’t worth all the time you will spend in a hospital when you are older and diseased.” I need to tattoo that on my arm. To help get my butt back in gear, I am doing the Primal Blueprint 21-Day Challenge (starting Monday, October 24) (through Vimify). Want to join me?!
I am practicing Yoga again too! Yoga made me feel better, more focused, and I was amazed at how flexible I was when practicing regularly. For someone who was never limber enough to touch his toes growing up, I was touching my toes in less than a month. I’m also starting ManFlowYoga’s What, Why, and How 21-Day Challenge.
Positivity and Optimism.
In addition to the eating better and exercising, I’m working on positivity and optimism. We live in a world that is consumed with negativity and pessimism. While I still get down and angry at times, I try hard to remain positive and spread positiveness and happiness. I stopped watching and reading the news because it feels like 95% is sad/depressing/negative news (and that’s probably a conservative percentage). We need to say hi to our neighbors, hold the door open for strangers, and smile more!
Over the next weeks, months, and years, I will share what I learn on this journey be it business, health, finances, minimalism, travel, or happiness. I hope you join me.
“Optimism is the most important human trait, because it allows us to evolve our ideas, to improve our situation, and to hope for a better tomorrow.” ~ Seth Godin
